heloooo frenns!!!!
haha. long time since we dance together and long time since i heard about u guys! haha. well.. just wanna tell u guys i am doing fine and GOd is showing me alot in this trip-- my honeymoon! haha. o yes tt's not the point!! i just bought all the dance movies here in china, it is cheap and quality is good.. really an investment. haha i am archiving rather collecting the dance dvds. if u guys found any other dance movies, pls email me the title and i will search for it... i bought a variety of genre. haha good investment for me as i watched and am doing my reserach on dance genres.. haha.

was trying to learn the dance steps of S.H.E's "Super Model" just now... well. cos i got their Forever DVD then inside got bonus part where S.H.E teach the dance steps...
well, actually its just part of it... =P still... better than nothin... learnt how to teach dance better thru the vid. the importance of a guiding teacher. jus some randoms things to record larh...
1. BE SURE YOU KNOW THE BEATS BEFORE YOU START TEACHING.
Ella started with the intro. then it happened to be that she's unsure(?) of the beats mayb... so she emphasised on rhythmn instead. my dance tchr actually did this b4. the difference is that, Ella did it for the whole 6 eights or so, where my tchr did it for half an eight.
**i only knew it was ard 6 eights cos i just listened to the music and counted till where she stopped tching...**
well, i find the beats to the song rather noticeable. so if done with the rhythmn, its quite easy for the learner to get lost. also, the beats ensure that you are doing the right movement at the right time.
2. DESCRIBE THE MOVES.
Selina was next with the chorus. she only missed a bit of this tho.. it really helps to describe the moves especially if u cannot see what the learner is doing. at least give clear instructions on whether its the left or the right.

For those who came late that day, here are the training sessions for Q4, and the instructor-pairs.
no practices on 29/9 and 6/10 - please study for your exams! the room can be opened on 6/10 though, for those who are free and want to experiment steps on their own.

Instructors are to lead warm-ups, prepare a routine of 6-eights and bring your own songs and speakers. Also, if you are covering steps from unexperimented-before genre, do spend some time teaching the basic techniques. :D

She loves salt & vingegar, 'chou cai', cheese and chocs. :D

"Why this place?" Apart from our damp butts imprinted into that patch of grass (which I hope we can revisit 10 years later), I hope it was memorable being close to God's beautiful Creation, at the same time enjoying good food and company. :D

okaes.. here is mine.. haha.. thousand apologies for sending in late. ayes, i dun have a video but i do have some ideas..i hope i am able to make myself clear..
was thinking of dancing without lights i.e. to dance with white lights that means only showing our shadow as the main dish. so if there is a trio, den three shadows. yeaps!^^

theme: portraying anxiety and anguish
genre: lyrical jazz/ emo movements they call
stage: using nexus stage
song: i have the song but cant upload, den no title, it is a music piece. =D

becus u lost something/someone precious and u would do everything to find it back, the determination of it. think the music will play a larger role in this.

"Imagine a sermon will be preached on Luke 15, and you have been requested to choreo a dance to support the sermon. How will you do it?" Explain your concept, genre, and suggest songs if possible. No need to illustrate actual steps.
hmmm, i think my idea would be pretty cliche, don't mind me! it's a dance to support the sermon right? so shouldn't be too long.
i think i would start off with the light focussed on the left side of the stage, where there is a woman and 9 other kids, playing and dancing together, until like suddenly the woman halt and shush her kids and gave a headcount. she counted once and was frightened, and counted again. shock by the fact that she counted nine instead of ten, she rubbed her eyes and counted once more. then she dashed away to look for the missing kid.
light will switch focus to the middle of the stage where the woman dance in fear and lost, pacing and running and turning in circles on tt area. a lot of crouching, pulling her action, rummaging of hair tt sort of things. (don't mind me, i can't exactly do contemp). as she was one the floor crying, she heard something and picked herself up.
light will switch focus to the right side of the stage when she found the missing kid, an has an obvious change in emotion, dance in a way that illustrate overflowing joy together with the missing kid. together they went to the centre stage where the other nine kids are and all of them we jumping and hopping and dancing with joy!

contemp cos i felt it's easier to express emotions and get the idea across.

Look who's doing it too!
For those who attended our June WAM night and watched the dances, the algorithm dance should not be unfamiliar to you. Was watching the tv just now and learned about this.
They actually have other dances as well. But those take a little longer to load. There is one that looks really good, like professional dancers. Look how dance can be influencing people in ways we can't even imagine! Creative! I like!

TPDE seniors are participating in the SUNTEC DANCE COMPETITION this coming sat (25 AUG). Venue is @ Suntec City tower 5! if it rains it will be at tower 2,3(level 3). if nt it will b @ tower 5. time: 6pm. Do come on down n support them( THE EPIC CREW) as audience stand 10% of the whole judging criteria! we really need ur support alright! anyone interested can contact mi on that day inself and we can all watch the whole competition together!!! =D

Updates!
Sorry for the confusion, but practices will remain at America Room in future. Will update again when practices will resume. In the meantime, do pray for Jacq and Qixin who're dancing for the upcoming ESS.
Next WAM night is on 16 july (mon). As usual, it starts at 7.30pm at Nexus auditorium. The upcoming session will be an extended Praise and Worship session! Come with an expectant heart to meet GOD!

anywayz... as you all know, the Great Singapore Sale is going on...
so got some prices to share with you all... =)
(btw, all e pants are like jumpers ie pants with two straps that u can put on or leave it dangling...) i can't really describe them to you... i'm not good in describing sorry...
1. Pants that the guys borrowed from my brother(harry) and christine.
left with only peach colour, XL(which is really big). costs $19 during GSS
the other two i'm telling you looks quite similar and i'd say more flexible 'cos you can even get rid of the straps if you want to and its new arrival so u cant get it at a cheaper price if u go on your own without a coupon.
2. looks like what Jia Li wore for WAM nite jus that is long pants and not short. really looks like the kind that farmers wear but not of indigo denim.
comes in white/dark brown, $48.30 after using a staff discount coupon of 30% that i got for you all from my dad.
3. instead of buckles, it uses the sew-on buttons compared to the one on top.
comes in light/dark brown, $41.30 after discount.
I only have like 12 coupons ie i can only buy 12 pieces. sorry about the bad description. i guess you really have to go and have a look on your own XP... btw, there is a difference between the 2nd and 3rd...

Dance workshop
1 day to workshop! 1 day to retreat!
Pray for:
1. The instructors (christine, kangli, yenli and myself) that we will be able to communicate clearly to the large group.
2. The participants that they will enjoy the session and be convinced that God created all of us with the ability to groove. (Hopefully our impact would be so huge that the next P&W, we'll see more people daring to express themselves in dancing to the Lord!) Also pray that there will be no injuries whatsoever.
3. Yourself that you will be able to help facilitate between the instructors and the participants, and be quick to spot any needs and meet them. Need you guys to really help in this because current registration is about 30 people for each session, so it's impossible for them to see the 2 instructors from far away. You guys need to show them how to do it!
Let's do this well! Think there is high expectation for this workshop, let's deliver what is expected and even more by God's grace and power!
And the reward and retreat comes right after that!! :D

Dance workshop
1 day to workshop! 1 day to retreat!
Pray for:
1. The instructors (christine, kangli, yenli and myself) that we will be able to communicate clearly to the large group.
2. The participants that they will enjoy the session and be convinced that God created all of us with the ability to groove. (Hopefully our impact would be so huge that the next P&W, we'll see more people daring to express themselves in dancing to the Lord!) Also pray that there will be no injuries whatsoever.
3. Yourself that you will be able to help facilitate between the instructors and the participants, and be quick to spot any needs and meet them. Need you guys to really help in this because current registration is about 30 people for each session, so it's impossible for them to see the 2 instructors from far away. You guys need to show them how to do it!

Dance workshop
Thanks all for today. Think many of us denied ourselves and 'throw face' at the reception doing the publicity. Do give me feedback if you have heard any. I can assure you that your efforts are not in vain, because I have received several sign ups already. Of course quite a number came from my own cg and the east district, so do remind your district-mates to sign up soon before all the places are filled.

Last week of school
Hoorays to the high school and jc students, for you're finally into the last week of school! For the poly peeps, tahan a bit more and we will all celebrate together in camp! :D
All of you should have received my sms to prepare 4 eight of choreography to the song 'get up' by ciara. We will present what we have prepared on sat training. Those who still have not got hold of the song can find me on msn. I will try to 'appear offline' less these few days. haha.
And for those who remember the service announcement on MINISTRY MADNESS, we will be taking pics on sat. Dress up cos we will be doing our publicity for the workshop too! Erm I'm not supposed to be in charge of sending the entry in, so maybe someone passionate enough for this ministry can take the lead. *hint hint* :D

Trademarks of a youth dancer
This was during training on 5th may. Instead of the usual warm ups and short routine, we sat on chairs and someone commented that it was like caregroup. Sure, we are a group that cares. We care more than just how long you can stay in a split (or if you can do one in the first place) or how many crunches you can do in a minute (though the more the merrier); in this team we care about your attitudes and other aspects of life too. After a time of testimony, I asked those present to pair up and answer the following question with a tableau (something like a freeze in a scene).
The question was: what do you think are/ should be the trademark of a youth dancer in Hope?
Humility (Matt 23:12)
Teamwork (Eccl 4:9-12)
Mutual support (similar to team work. I actually thought of 'encouragement' when I saw this picture.)
Stretching beyond limits (moving out of comfort zone)
Spiritual ('I will read my bible and pray': All Day by Hillsong United)
Visionary (Joel 2:28-29)
Touch from God (THIS also shows another trademark: creativity!)
Loving (Love God, love people - everything boils down to Matt 28:18-20)
Last but not least, Cool! (Afterall, we are reaching out to the youths! 1 Cor 9:20-23)
Just want to summarise it by quoting from Rick Warren, if we have the right attitude but no skills, that's sincere ineffectiveness; but if we have skills and not the right attitude, that's menace! Let's continue to grow in our skills and attitude.
