was trying to learn the dance steps of S.H.E's "Super Model" just now... well. cos i got their Forever DVD then inside got bonus part where S.H.E teach the dance steps...
well, actually its just part of it... =P still... better than nothin... learnt how to teach dance better thru the vid. the importance of a guiding teacher. jus some randoms things to record larh...
1. BE SURE YOU KNOW THE BEATS BEFORE YOU START TEACHING.
Ella started with the intro. then it happened to be that she's unsure(?) of the beats mayb... so she emphasised on rhythmn instead. my dance tchr actually did this b4. the difference is that, Ella did it for the whole 6 eights or so, where my tchr did it for half an eight.
**i only knew it was ard 6 eights cos i just listened to the music and counted till where she stopped tching...**
well, i find the beats to the song rather noticeable. so if done with the rhythmn, its quite easy for the learner to get lost. also, the beats ensure that you are doing the right movement at the right time.
2. DESCRIBE THE MOVES.
Selina was next with the chorus. she only missed a bit of this tho.. it really helps to describe the moves especially if u cannot see what the learner is doing. at least give clear instructions on whether its the left or the right.
Hebe was up last to teach the extra "Prawn Dance". If i didnt hear wrongly, it was actually choreographed by Ella. so i actually wonder why Ella wasnt the one teachin it... apparently, Hebe's was unclear-est. cos she didnt count beats, and she didnt know how to describe the moves *she admitted the latter on her own..* so she ended up making sure she did the dance slowly for us to learn on our own.
3. REPETITION OF MOVES.
i'm unsure if its due to the lack of time. but Hebe only did it once. Selina and Ella did repeat certain steps a few times... Hebe's was a "one-shot" kinda thing. so u get it, u get it. u don't, press the rewind button and watch it again till u get it. the repetition of moves allow the learner to have more time to make sure what they're learnin is correct and be able to rmb it better.
4. TEACH IN ORDER---TRY NOT TO SKIP PARTS.
this is impt especially if you're teaching a WHOLE dance. mayb due to lack of time. mayb due to not wanting ppl to know the whole dance better than they do. but the teachin only included the 1st 2 lines of the song, the chorus and the special. so the other parts of the verse are all gone. ie i gotta watch the mv clearly again, to learn the other steps on my own.
5. TEACH SLOWER THAN THE ORIGINAL PACE.
this is rather obvious isnt it?? well, u gotta teach the learners slowly. so slow the beat down, if time allows, slightly quicken the pace when doin repetitions. best is to repeat until the learners can do what u have taught in the original pace. ie they can follow the music without much difficulty.
yeah. that's basically it. i'm most likely gonna give up on that dance cos it really takes too much time to learn it on your own... =P
