Training week 1
Hey great job everyone!
By the way during my announcements yesterday, I forgot to say that we'll need videos for our booth to make it exciting apart from the 5 minutes showcase.
And how exciting these videos are depend on you guys!
If you would like to help, please send in a video of you dancing solo/ with people from the team, and we'll piece the various items together for the video.
If you don't have a camera, bring your song on Sat, and I can film you between 11 to 11.30am. :D

Connecting faith and dance

The Relationship Between Faith and Dance
Dance is born from the heart and soul of people and cultures. Long before the polished refinement of classical or contemporary dance movement, dance lived and thrived in personal expression and communal relationships within a society. Dance was also a highly important and viable means of worshipful devotion, as worldviews of faith were visually demonstrated through offerings of dance. It may seem that as dance evolved more to a stage performance art form that these sacred expressions of faith began to disappear.
The gulf between faith and art is finding needed reconciliation and a more holistic view of what it truly means to create art that is informed and supported by one’s personal faith. As many artists during the time of the Reformation knew, the gift of art is a gift of God to mankind who has created us in His image. The artist therefore can understand themselves as servants of God to humanity, enriching life and upholding its’ truth and beauty through their offerings and servitude. The artist then finds freedom from the pull of celebrity appeal to the higher call of a creative servant, meeting this world in its’ need. The arts were meant to bless and enrich our world.

Brief summary of 26 Sept meeting
Hey!
This is for the benefit of people who are forgetful/ came in late/ overslept/ drifted off during the meeting itself/ "HUH what meeting?!".
Thanks Christine and yunian for leading us into a time of worship and indeed I wish for God to be my "all consuming fire". Once again, be reminded that the best gift we can bring to the church is a healthy, joyful, loving and vital self; not our talents, knowledge, leadership, experience or creativity.
So while I was reminded of my vision while preparing the meeting, I hope that everyone will really take time to think and ask yourself: Why dance? Why dance for God? Why dance in this church? Why dance in this team?
You may not have the full answer, but I hope you won't just brush the questions aside either. If you on the same frequency as me, I hope we can give our 100% best from now on, starting with trainings.
We will start with 8 weeks of training from 10th Oct to end Nov, every Saturday morning 9.30am. We will be using the Danzpeople studio @ POMO for this. EVERYONE is expected to be there, as we start afresh and make training part of our ministry's DNA. Mainly for the purpose of funding the studio rental, everyone also need to contribute to the monthly dance fund. Please pay $10 to Shirlene by every first week of the month. Once again I repeat, that the 1st collection is by 3rd Oct and it is YOUR responsibility to contact Shirlene to pass her the $$.
For the ground rules that we've set, please remember that at the top of the list sits: Be punctual. So on 10th October, everyone is expected to be there on time and properly attired. Do contact the following people (district i/cs) if you have issues with training, e.g. will be late on that day.

MinOps and Northeast - jiali,
Central - Desmond,
East - Shirlene,
West - Christine,
North - Bridget,
JC - Api.
Finally, do check back this blog regularly. We will be having a new look and more features soon. In the meantime, here's a video that to me shows the kind of body control we are hoping to gain after training.
Before one can confidently execute controlled triple pirouette on stage, one should be able to do a quad during trainings off stage. So as we hit the dance studio once again for training, let's not lose sight of why we do what we do.

The highly anticipated annual Suntec Dance competition, Suntec Dance is back and this time the prizes are much more attractive!
We wish to invite you to register and participate in any of the following categories to stand to win prizes totaling a value of $37,000!
The competition is open to:
Junior Solo Category : Individual 12 years old and below for Junior Solo Category
Open Solo Category : Individual 13 years old and above for Open Solo Category
Group Category : 4 to 8 members of any age

june holiday classes
hey guys, recently i met up with my dance senior and she recommended this dance school (apart from the usual oschool, studiowu, danzpeople... etc. but i think movingarts specialises more in jazz, ballet and contemp)
BUT good news! they are having some workshops this holidays. all after camp. and all are still open. quite cheap also. you guys might like to check it out!

okok. according to a few sites,
a movie is coming up on 28may [i mean in singapore], called
Dance, Subaru!
let you all see the hongkong trailer first.
as you can see, the main genre on the movie is...
ballet and contemporary.
i have to say that i'm not really into ballet and contemp.
though...i did ballet before and is in my school's contemp dance team.
as i said before, contemp to me is more like.....rolling around, jumping around, running around.
the end.

i have watched this movie, TWICE. *shhhhh*
the storyline isn't bad, it's basically talking about the life of a girl called Subaru.
[of course, there are other things but i shan't spoil the movie.]

Hey people! Because I ended the meeting yesterday in a rush, some of you might not have caught the details. Do inform your team members to check this space.
You have 1.5 hours with your choreographers either this week (6th) or next (13th). Thereafter, your team is on your own for the rest of the month.
America room is available to 2 groups per 1.5 hours slot on 20th and 27th. The SMS booking will be opened on the Fridays before (17th/ 24th 00:00), and will be given out on a first come first serve basis.
I've got back most of your feedback on what could have been better, so hope that you apply it in this month's showcase. We'll meet everyone together again on 2nd May. :D

6/4 DK's street jazz 6pm: kangli, yufei, rasheed, yilin, api, carol, issac, shirlene
6/4 Joshua's breaking 7.30pm: xinru, yujun, cleo, raph, joey, desmond, tzelin, denise

hey ess dancers,
anyone loan out your clothes and yet to get them back?
I have a black cardigan and a brownish 3/4 bottoms in my possession currently that is untagged. I have no idea who loaned it and who owns it, so please help me out if you have any clue.
Any other costumes not accounted for (haven't return + haven't apologize for forgetfulness), please direct to me and I will try to hunt it down for you.

yozza friends! how's everyboday doingggg. we are one weekend away from 14 march! i am really really really excited to see what God's gonna do through all of us! and before i go on to anything, really thank God for you guys, all the hardwork, commitment and passion. we are all dancing, moving towards one vision, for one God ... (:
let's pray...
1. for the sowing efforts from now till march 14. pray that God will soften and open hearts, pray that the people we're trying to reach out to will be receptive and responsive! pray for visitors as well that they will be moved by God in a big big way through the ess, and they will experience wholly the love of God
2. for the ess!!! let's pray for our dances alrightt. pray that God will make the image and the lights work out really good, as we do our best depend on God to do the rest! pray that God will bless us and help us deliver our message across strong and sharp and impactful. that we'll be able to portray whichever emotions/expressions we need to, and the lights and image and sounds will be a great complement to the dance!
whohooo!! jiayou guys! God is using us in a big big way! (:
i am really thankful, and privileged that God gave me the ability to dance, to serve Him with movements... and i wanna be faithful with this, i wanna do my best cos God deserves it.

(ps. ALL ESS PEOPLE TAKE NOTE: we are supposed to bring our costumes (or rather, whatever parts of the costumes we have) on sat. can you guys please put your individual attire into a plastic bag/shoe bag and then attach your name on the bag so that we wont mix up the clothes. there's 26 of us... i wouldn't wanna imagine if we mix'em all up. THANK YOU!)

f&p 2 more weeks countdown
Hi friends, am here to post on behalf of chias.
As we fast today, let's pray for:
1. The friends we are thinking of inviting/ have invited.
Pray for God to already prepare their hearts, open and ready for God to speak on that day. We hope to see lives responding to the message on that day and being impacted by the service. Let's all really do our best to bring at least 1 friend each for that day!
2. The ESS day.
Pray for God to use the various dances to communicate to the different people who will walk through the Nexus door. Pray against any technical glitches and wardrobe malfunctions on that day. Hey people,
strongly encourage us to watch widely. So here's something for us dancers to move beyond the traditional dance. They've transform romeo and juliet into a movement drama. no words.
Am going for the Good Friday show, interested parties let me know by end of this week (28/2) pls.

HELLO FRIENDZZZZZ ! how's everyboday!! it's friday again, it's fasting and praying time! :D
1. for the followup of the newbelievers who came to know God during feb ess! pray for effective followup through the next few weeks so that all these people dont just come to know God, they stay with God too !
2. for the follow through of non-believers who came down for feb ess but didn't respond. lets pray that they'll be touched by God this next coming one! and i believe the JC people are gonna start inviting friends now (jc kids usually take longer time to respond, check out, think it through etc) so really pray that God will gradually open these people's hearts to Him so that on march 14, we'll see even more people cross the line of salvation (:

anyway! all of you should have known by now, 27th Feb (friday), 7pm is our combined rehearsal at america room so please take it down on your calendars again. all the 6 groups will showcase your items so dancers please take note!! we have invited shuzhen, shirls, the image team and the media team to come watch us, so its really a display of what we wanna show during the ess itself.
besides deciding whether we need to up rehearsals for any group (or make changes to the choreography etc), we are also assessing on individual basis. reason for this is that, we really want to keep the quality of the ess and we want to present the best show. people come expecting to be wow-ed, so we need to hit it too. so if we feel that you are struggling to keep up with the dance, or that you're unfamiliar with the steps etc, unfortunately, we would have to take you out.
please do take your own time to practise! we have rooms everyday for next week. choreographers if you want your people to come down to practise please let me know. for dance 6 (God), we're most prolly rehearsing most of the days. to be confirmed.
oh and also. i'd be uploading the dance tracks onto the widget box. a couple of songs still need editing - dance 1, dance 6, dance 4. so please be patient while the very nice jason helps us with the songs! i am nagging him to send me soon though =p
jiayou everybody!! i wish i can say more jiayous, but i think i shall just pray more hehe. it's an understatement to say that most of us are stretched, but God is still good. if we're not stretched, we cannot see how God can work it all out ! sooo, keep it going !! and you all can pray for dk and christine too, working very hard on the choreography and dances even though they have major exams next week (: i know peu's having exams on 27th and 28th, so keep all of them in prayer k! if anyone of you needs prayers, please post'em up here!

aloha! it's me again. hopefully you guys don't get sick of me kay ;D
hey guys, as we pray and fast, let's be hungry, be expectant, be excited for God to move big time ! we settle with ourselves, God will settle the rest.
as you guys know, this sat is vday ess (can you guys imagine? time fliesss!! we were talking about feb and mar ess like just 2 months ago). and you all know how stressful it is to have to prep for an ess rightttt, so we wanna pray for the hiphop drama team too !
1. pray for the drama team for sat's ESS. i think hiphop drama, beatboxing etc, all these are pretty new things that the church hasn't really done before. so pray that the entire programme will run smoothly, that the message they wanna to deliver will catch people's hearts, and God will use them to impact even more lives. the team consists of jason, joel, joanne, and jianhao (all Js i realised!) - keep them in prayer!!
2. let's shamelessly ask for God's favour to be on this dance team!! i look at how far we've progressed since day one, i think we couldn't have done anything without God's intervention - the creativity and inspiration for the choreographers, how the rehearsals got sorted out just in time, how the whole idea now gets solid and everything's getting going. everything from the technicalities (lights, sounds, image) to the dancers (choreography, sync, energy), pray that God will make all things right, make them all the best as we do our best too
so excited to see all the dances progressing!

songs for feb and quick update
hello pls find hip hop training (beg & adv beg) songs uploaded on widget as "ciara..". Do prac cos it is likely he will continue the routine next sat (14 feb).
Once again timing is 10-11am for beg, and 11-12noon for adv beg. But all are supposed to report 15 mins before class starts. Let's make it a habit to be punctual and do some light warm-up and recap in that 15 minutes.
Coming sat is ESS so some/ all of you may have visitors. As much as possible, inform your cg members/ leaders beforehand that training is still ongoing (even for ess week 14/2 and combined service saturday 21/2), so can make arrangements for your visitors to be left in someone else's care until the class ends. It's just 1 hour, so really hope we can all make time for this.
Let's keep praying for the feb and march ess! From preparation to execution, all must be geared toward salvations!

hey dudes!! it's me and my weekly updates again. haha how's rehearsals going for you guys? dance 5's going on well, dance 6 just started..... saw the girls hiphop that day, looking pretty! what about the rest! hmmm i know all you guys are kinda stretched, by remb you're not alone k! all of us are working equally hard hehe (:
into our... 4th week of praying and fasting! wow thats fast, a month has since passed :D
1. continue to pray that all our rehearsals will go well. really need God's grace to be with us that for the remaining 6 weeks (!!! SIX ONLY!!) there'll be no disruptions to our rehearsals, all the dancers will be available for every rehearsal and each time we meet up, the time will be fruitful and productive and all the dancers will improve from every rehearsal. (on side note, as we pray and seek God, let's do our best to dance well and get the steps right too)
2. continue to keep watch over our spiritual lives okie? we may be physically worn out, mentally stretched etc, but keep the end in mind, keep the end in mind, it's all worth the sweat and labour now hehe
was reading the book of esther in my study bible today, and it said when God wants something done, He'll do it through natural order, miracles, and providence. when people wanna get something done, we plan, pray, then trust & obey. we've planned, we've prayed (and are praying), let's obey by dancing our best and trust God to bring us there :D
yay! take care you guys. i have fallen sick twice since 2 weeks ago. hahaha, before you say weak (and judge me), i won't mind if you pray a prayer of healing for me. hehe (: THANKS DUDES! let's run this race together!

DESPERATE for a proper venue!
Anyone living in a condo with function room by any chance? Preferably in a centralized location, with mirror and FOC to use...
OR maybe you converted your room to a built-in studio? (Oh how I dream...)
OR maybe you know of someone who has access to such facilities and don't mind booking it for us?

hello ha! it's me again. i wonder if you guys actually see the post. so if you guys read it, do respond by tagging on the tagboard! and you can always share the progress of your rehearsals, testimonies, trainings, learnings etc, thats what our blog is for! (:
besides praying and fasting for our own spiritual life (to be ready and to be used by God!), i was just trying to think of prayer points, but bingo, i realised there's something very important that we can all pray for!
1. our ESS name!! having to brainstorm for an ess name made me quite convicted of how important the name will be. it has to have meaning, it has to be appealing, and it has to be catchy. so please pray for creativity and inspiration for us that we'll come up with a great name that people would hear it and would be attracted to the ess okie! and pray that God will make it work (:
2. please also keep your fellow dancers in prayer. rehearsals have more or less started except for a couple of items, so we really need God's grace to help everyone of us catch steps and be fast learners, and have chemistry between all the dancers too. pray that rehearsals will keep up so that we have more time to perfect the dances before ess!

wheeee, love this collage to bits and pieces, dont you? hehehe yours truly created it using picasa!!
anyways! hope you guys had a great week. this week the dance (5) people started on our dance, and hmmmm it's really good. please please please do affirm and thank the choreographers for working so hard on the dances when you meet them. they are joshua, kangli, tzelin, christine, dk, and cher (: it's really not easy to come up with steps and still gotta portray the intended message.

tomorrow is our second week of praying and fasting! as like last week, here are the prayer pointers:
1. ESS preparations (rehearsals, choreography, costumes, props etc) will flow along with what God intends to do with us and with our production. meaning we don't just want to work work work work slog slog slog, but we need to work in the correct direction as well. so you can also pray that we will be rilly rilly wise, creative, and sensitive to the spirit through this whole time! yes, all of us, not just the production heads, but alll the dancers as well.
2. please continue to pray over your spiritual life, friends! i think i shall make this point permanent :D i think its really important we walk right with God, keep our focus right, and guard our hearts through this period of time. lets ask God to convict us and remind us how awfully important it is to have clean hands and pure hearts yeah? (:

btw, i know tomorrow group 1 has rehearsal. so if you're fasting lunch, please make sure you grab a bite after you break fast so that you won't faint during rehearsal =p its 7-9.30pm at america room (if america room still cannot be used, please go to reception).

//edit: btw guys, if you cannot make it for any of the rehearsals, please let your choreographers AND your group leader know. sorry if i didn't make this clear before, but if you guys let me know, i've to pass msg to ur group ppl and then blahblahblah may miscom somewhere. and also! maybe you haven't knew this yet but here are the various group leaders/contacts (meaning, if i've got any message for you guys, they'll pass it down) for each dance group:
(1) - peu i.e peiyu (hehe)
(2) - desmond
(3) - xinru
(4) - cher (and to cher alone)
(5) - yunian
(6) - myself (cos most are overlapping dancers)
oh and choreographers do make sure you arrange with those absentees on 'make up' rehearsals or you can use saturdays as well.
- EDIT by jiali - The responsibility falls on the absentees to arrange 'make up' rehearsals with the choreographers to learn the steps before the next rehearsal. Please note that being in the rehearsal team doesn't guarantee you'll end up on stage. Clean hands, pure hearts, but also skilful hands and feet. :D
